Kyoto Marathon Tactics

Pre-Race (Carb Loading)

Japan is perfect for this! Stick to familiar carbs. Rice balls (Onigiri), Udon, and Mochi. Avoid heavy Tonkotsu ramen the night before (too fatty). Hydrate with Pocari Sweat (local electrolyte drink).

Race Day Strategy

The Kyoto course has rolling hills in the first half and a long downhill finish. Start conservative. Be prepared for chilly weather; buy a cheap jacket from Uniqlo or Donki to throw away at the start line.

Recovery

Immediately drink protein (Zavas brand at conbini is great). Visit an Onsen/Sento (ensure they allow tattoos if you have them, e.g., Funaoka Onsen in Kyoto). Wear compression socks for the next 2 days of sightseeing.
